Enabling Dreams
Learning Disabled Lesson plans require that people/students with disability be given every equal opportunity and access to education and be to help them overcome their physical impairments. Given the proper attention and assistance to the Learning Disabled, such an individual can be successful at their work, at school and in society as well. I believe that providing necessary “assistive technology” to students with learning disabilities can help them improve their livelihood in society. It is also helpful to include in the lesson plans ways that also require students to be given a normal learning environment.
I believe we should make arrangements to accommodate every disabled student. The goal is to help ALL students incorporate technology into their lives not only for convenience, but also for necessity. Technology has especially benefitted students with disabilities in that it is a tool that helps them in many ways. It saves time at school, it aids in creating new ideas, do research and more. For some, it is literally their lifeline.
Unfortunately, parents and teachers alike are not always aware of the availability of technology. As teachers, we need to assert ways to help children with disabilities practice independent skills so as to allow them to be more prepared for the future. I realize that this is important early on in a child’s academic years. It will allow them to focus more on the content and material when older. As teachers we need to ANALYZE the learner and find means to enhance the students learning.
Related to the use of instructional technology, a teacher's preparation might include: 1) ways to identify appropriate electronic resources or websites, then organizing them for students using bookmarks or hyperlinks within an instructional document 2.) Develop some type of graphic organizers for student to use (ex. for student note taking while conducting online research; for development of storyboard plans for a multimedia or digital video presentation etc.).creating templates (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or other useful programs) to guide student work. I believe that it should be every teacher’s aim to try to create a lesson plan that provides every student with an opportunity to become sensitive to the needs and abilities of physically disabilities.
The most important parts of revised lesson plans are the SPECIFICS of the modifications that are made in order to accommodate the exact disabilities of a disabled learner. These modifications are made especially so that the student can do more than participate in the general education classroom, but also that they be an active and engaged learner. Each learning disabled student should be an active and vibrant part of the learning process just as any other students has the opportunity to do so. Considering modifications in a lesson plan to fit a disabled learner is important. Keep in mind each unique individual. I must also remember that learners with disabilities are very much capable learning just the same way as that every other learner is capable of doing. As teachers, we must continue to find ways to help those students who may have specific issues in my class who may find contributing to the class challenging.
Teachers are accountable for each student: disabled or not. It is a teacher's responsibility to take into account the students and be aware of their challenges and also their strengths. When teacher's are able to locate the specific challenges of each student, they may modify it so that they are better suited for the class.
